Description:

The Pour:

This beer pours with a light golden brown colour, the
head is light and last for approximately 3 minutes before dissipating to a light covering on the top. As standard I poured the first half of the beer with the glass at 45o, and then poured the rest in at 90o to try and generate a decent head without overflowing the glass.

The Nose:

This beer has a very malty and hoppy start, with what I would describe as a touch of citrus this maybe lime. There is a slight touch of spiciness under all these others, this may be Cumin .

The Taste:

When tasting this light to medium bodied beer, the first thing that you get is the hit from the malt from the barley and then the refreshing slightly sour hit from the hops, this is the usual first taste that most people get when tasting beer.  I found that there was a slight and subtle taste of lime citrus that was detected on the nose.  The finish is of a pleasant bready nature.

Accompanying Food:

The refreshing taste of Kalnapilis Grand would make an excellent accompaniment to any pork or chicken dish, especially if this food was very rich and creamy in nature say Medallions of pork with a cream and mushroom sauce, as the Kalnapilis Grand’s slightly sour taste will help to cut through the excessive richness from the cream and mushroom sauce.

Recommended:

Yes, I would recommend this beer to others, as it is a decent beer that you cannot really go wrong with, I would say that Kalnapilis Grand beer does have some of the usual hallmarks of a typical Baltic lager, but I would say that it is slightly better that most.
