Beer – Corona Extra
Origin – Mexico
Bottle Style – Long neck (33cl)
Alc. 4.6% vol.
Ingredients – water, barley, hops and yeast.
Description:
The Pour:
When poured from the bottle the beer is a pale straw yellow/brown colour. The medium white head which forms in the pouring very quickly disappears completely. As standard I poured the first half of the beer with the glass at 45o, and then poured the rest in at 90o to try and generate a decent head without overflowing the glass.
The Nose:
The nose is subtle with just the very barest suggestion of hops. With like the hint of hops has the most subtle touch of citrus under the hops.
The Taste:
I tasted Corona with the tradition slice of lime, so as to be able to taste the actual beer without the over powering taste of the lime. The resulting taste is of a very subtle citrus possible lemon with just the smallest touch of sweetness, with a light lingering hit from the hops. In short I am very disappointed in this beer as with the addition of lime it becomes very drinkable, but without the lime this beer become much less drinkable.
Accompanying Food:
Corona beer with the addition of lime is an ideal accompaniment to a nice bowl of chilli, but should go equally well with most types Mexican food or slightly spicy foods.
Recommended:
No, I don’t think this is the beer to be recommending as any beer which relies on the addition of an external source to provide the majority of the flavour, is not in my option a great beer.
