Description:
The Pour:
Pouring Honey Dew for the bottle it is a slightly cloudy light golden brown in colour, with a fair amount of bubble observed rising all the way from the bottom. This beer pours medium thick and has a good thick slightly soapy looking head which lasts for a couple of minutes leaving some lacing behind. As standard I poured the first half of the beer with the glass at 45o, and then poured the rest in at 90o to try and generate a decent head without overflowing the glass.
The Nose:
When I lifted the glass to take the first smell of the beer, I picked up the sweet aroma of raw honey with a slight overtone of floral hops. There was also a hint of some spiciness this reminder me somewhat of codomain, there was also a touch of a citrus nature possible a touch of lime or lemon. The aroma from the honey and the hops seemed to get more pronounced as I work my way down through the glass and as the beer warmed.
The Taste:
The honey and floral hops were evident in the very first sip but not as strongly as the aroma might indicate. There is a touch of bitterness, this is from the floral hops (to act as a counter balance to stop the honey sweetness from overpowering the taste), and there was also the touch of the spiciness found in the nose (codomain?). As I consumed the beer a more subtle hint of the under laying grain start to make itself known, this was not evident in the aroma at the start. The lemon/lime citrus flavour adds a nice cleaning of the palate finish to what in my option is a decent beer.
Accompanying Food:
The light crisp flavour of Honey Dew serves to make it a unique and versatile accompaniment for lots of different foods, if taken with a very creamy spaghetti carbonara dish this beer will cut through the richness of the creamy sauce to allow you to taste the food without being overpowered by the sauce. This beer is also good as the base of dishes for both dessert and savoury.
Recommended:
Yes, I would recommend this beer to others, as the slight honey sweetness and flavour of this beer should be tried by everyone. I would say anyone to at least try a beer which is brewed using honey as one of its ingredients, this is the first time I have tried this type of beer and am pleasantly surprised with how good this it is.
