Description:

The Pour:

This beer pours a very dark cloudy ruby red almost black in appearance.  The head froths ip nicely and lasts for approximately 3-4 minutes, leaving a layer of around 20mm thick on top; this provides some nice lacing throughout the rest of the beer. I poured this beer about half way through at 45o then paused and swirled the bottle and topped up the glass slowly thus creating the head
 The Nose:

The first and most prominent  thing that I noted when trying this beer was the combination of the roasted malt with strong hints of wheat and barley, with the slight bitterness of hops towards the end with slight touches of what might possibly be bitter chocolate at least that what it reminds me off.

The Taste:

The first impression I received when it came to the tasting off this beer is off the malted wheat and barley so as you would expect this give a strong but not overpowering malt taste to the start of the beer.  The addition of the roasted malt to the mix in Erdinger Dunkel gives a distinctive roasted malt finish to the beer with the slight bitterness from the floral hops and bitter chocolate finishing off this excellent medium bodied beer in style.

Accompanying Food:

This beer would be suitable to accompany dishes such as beef stroganoff or any rich hearty meat dishes, as the flavours inherent within this beer will work best with these dishes to enhance the taste of the food.

Recommended:

I would recommend this beer to others it is my opinion that this beer would suit most stout and dark ale drinkers as there is some similarities to these types of beers, also I would recommend this beer to others to try as it is an excellent example of a dark wheat beer. But this maybe too much for some lager drinkers as these wheat beers can be an acquired taste.

  1. Se,, now you have made me want this beer. And the Ram's Head Tavern is just a short walk from my house...

I've been meaning to tell you, I appreciate you stopping by on Irish Gumbo. The comments have been quiet encouragement for me, and in this unsettled period of my life, that is worth a lot.

Thanks so much, and here's to a bright future! Slainte!
