Description:

The Pour:

This beer pours a dark straw colour than when in the glass appears to be almost clear with only a slight cloudiness.  When poured the head raises to about 20-30mm, but this has very little retention in that it is pretty much gone after 3 minutes leaving like most other beers a light covering to the surface.  There is a fair amount of carbonation rising from the base of the glass, I would have expected with this amount that the head would have lasted much longer.  I poured this beer in the usual manor with the glass held at 45o and then starting the pour without the bottle touching the glass, when at the halfway mark straighten the glass and pouring the rest in to generate a head.

The Nose:

This beer has a slight bready smell from the yeast, this is also a traditional sign that this is a lager, this is followed by and overlays a hint from the malt barley, then to finish up there is some spicy notes from the floral hops with a slight follow through from some citrus, this is maybe lemon in my opinion.

The Taste:

This beer is much easier to drink than its cousin Kalnapilis Grand which I reviewed a couple of weeks ago, but not quite up to the same taste. That being said this beer starts off with the bready and malty barley notes from the nose, with some spiciness and the traditional slight bitterness from the hops towards the finish, with just slightest hint of the citrus lemony flavour to complement this.

Accompanying Food:
I would have to say that Kalnapilis Original is a pleasant beer that would go quite well with light meals, when doing this test I finished the glass off while eating a rich Bolognese and this seemed to work very well together with the beer working to reduce the richness of the sauce.

Recommended:
Yes I would defiantly recommend this beer to others, as this beer is a pleasant tasting beer, while not to strong, it is very easily drunk. But the best thing about this beer is the price, it is cheap enough that everyone can give it a try without breaking the bank.
